Stop the spark when you plug in your battery. This inline precharge tool sits between your battery and your motor controller and gently charges the controller's capacitors before you make the main connection. That eliminates the arc that pits and wears out XT60 connectors over time. Built-in indicator LEDs tell you at a glance whether your battery is wired correctly and when it's safe to plug in direct. It's reusable and fits in your toolkit: check polarity, precharge, unplug, connect.

How to use

  1. Plug the battery into the tool's battery-side XT60 first, with nothing on the controller side.
  2. Check the LED. Green means polarity is correct, so continue. Red means polarity is reversed, so unplug and fix the wiring before going any further. Blue may also light with no controller attached. This is normal; it only means "complete" once the controller is plugged in.
  3. Once you see green, plug the controller into the tool's other side.
  4. Wait for blue. That means the controller's capacitors are precharged.
  5. Unplug the tool and connect the battery directly to the controller.

Features

  • Precharges controller capacitors through a 1,950 Ω resistor network to eliminate connection arcing
  • Red / Green / Blue status LEDs: reverse polarity / correct polarity / precharge complete
  • Reverse-polarity blocking: if the battery is wired backwards, no current flows to the controller through the tool
  • "Precharge complete" detection compares the controller voltage to the battery voltage and lights blue at about 90%
  • Spacing between high-voltage copper laid out for 168 V (IPC-2221 spacing guidelines)
  • Removable inline design: it's a tool, not a permanent part of your wiring

Specifications

  • Battery range: 18S to 40S (up to 168 V)
  • Connectors: XT60 male (battery side), XT60 female (controller side)
  • Precharge resistance: 1,950 Ω (5 × 390 Ω, 1 W)
  • Peak precharge current: under 90 mA at 168 V
  • Typical precharge time: about 10 seconds for most controllers (varies with controller capacitance)
  • Board size: 76 × 37 mm

Notes

  • For precharging only. Remove the tool once blue lights and connect the battery directly.
  • If blue doesn't come on within about 30 seconds of connecting the controller, unplug the tool. The controller may be drawing power or have a fault.
  • Not for continuous or in-line operation while riding.
